The advantages of growing undercover in a Morrifield Tunnelhouse

• Extended growing season: Polythene tunnel houses provide a controlled environment that helps extend the growing season. The polythene cover traps heat and creates a greenhouse effect, allowing plants to thrive even in colder climates. This means you can start planting earlier in the seasons and extend your growing.
• Protection from extreme weather: Polythene tunnels offer protection from extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain, hail, strong winds, and better protection from frost. The plastic cover acts as a shield, preventing damage to the plants and reducing the risk of crop loss. Rain, hail, and snow will not damage your cover.
• Pest and disease control: The enclosed environment of a polythene tunnel helps keep pests and diseases at bay. The plastic cover acts as a physical barrier, preventing insects and other pests from accessing the plants. It also reduces the risk of fungal diseases by keeping the foliage dry and minimizing humidity, however you do need good ventilation.

All Morrifield Tunnel houses come standard with one Polythene door and one roof vent. The larger the model the more ventilation is required, and windows and back doors are available as part of the kitset, to suit your requirements.  Larger models require 2 or 3 roof vents and window or doors in the end to get as much airflow as possible. This will reduce the risk of mildew, moulds, and fungus diseases on your crops. The temperatures in the summer months are going to be higher so good airflow is a key attribute.

Shade: In some climates and in the heat of Summer shading your tunnelhouse will regulate the temperature to reduce stress on some plants. Our shade covers offer 30% shade, and this is suitable for growing fruit and vegetables. Too much shade can stop photosynthesis and reduce growing capabilities. If you are growing natives or flowers these may require more percentage of shade, depending on what you are growing.

Cleaning:

We advise you clean your tunnelhouse once a year to maintain good light transmission. This will also get rid of any dust, residues from plants and any mould/mildew. Watch our handy cleaning video below

What If I want to convert my Polythene Tunnelhouse to a Crop Protection Tunnehouse?

Yes, this can absolutely be done but there are a few additional parts needed but the sizes are the same. There will however be spare parts not needed, like vents and windows. Please bear in mind that a Polythene Tunnelhouse is more versatile for all year growing, especially through the colder winter months.

Delivery: Our Tunnel houses are freighted nationwide. Collection can be from any Mainfreight depot but does require a trailer 8ft x 4ft approximately or larger for pick up.

Freight can be direct to site in most locations; however, some locations are inaccessible.

If you require a freight cost, please send full address details via the enquire button and we are happy to provide you with a quote to your property.

*Please note you need good access to your property for delivery as the kitset is delivered on a large truck.

*Important, please note:

Our Tunnel houses have been tried & tested in NZ’s harsh weather conditions since 1980. It is very important to provide good wind shelter/protection especially from the North Westerly wind which in some cases is gale force, or your prevailing wind. Having good wind protection and shelter will ensure longevity in most cases, except for major weather events, and including cyclones and tornadoes of which we have no control over.

We cannot guarantee the tunnelhouse and parts against weather events due to the nature of the product and placement or location unfortunately.

Our product is guaranteed for 10 years for the framework and parts, against any manufacturing fault or defect deemed by us that is not satisfactory, excluding the cover which has a 4-year warranty.
